Many visitors come to Cap Tourmente National Wildlife Area (NWA) to enjoy the natural beauty and the many outdoor activities available at Cap Tourmente. Environment and Climate Change Canada also issues permits through a lottery system for controlled fall hunt for Greater Snow Goose within the Cap Tourmente NWA.

Our service standards tell you how long it will normally take us to process and respond to your request for admission or your permit application. We base these timelines on our resources and our experience.

Current service standards summary

Access to the Cap Tourmente NWA is granted automatically to any person who pays the necessary fees. It should be noted, however, that, such access is restricted to designated areas and times of year, and that the NWA can be closed to the public without notice.

The service standards for entry into the Cap Tourmente NWA are that fees are processed and entry is granted into the NWA within 30 minutes of arrival at the main entrance.

Our service standards set the timeframe for the Minister to issue or refuse to issue an authorization under the Wildlife Area Regulations (WAR). We regularly analyze performance data and review service standards for all types of permits and authorizations issued under the WAR.

Analyzing and Reporting – Performance against Service Standards

In the case of admittance to Cap Tourmente NWA, we measure service standards for by tracking the number of people admitted into the NWA against the total number of complaints received in a given reporting timeframe (i.e. from April 1 of a year until March 31 of the following year). In the case of the permits for the controlled fall hunt for greater snow goose issued through a lottery system we measure the issuance dates for notices and permits issued against the dates listed above.

We post performance information online no later than June 1 for the preceding reporting timeframe.

During the 2017/18 fiscal year, 60 896 people were admitted into Cap Tourmente. During the same period, 895 people applied for a permit for the controlled fall hunt and 128 hunting packages (1 package for a maximum of 4 hunters) were awarded via lottery.

Authorizations for Cap Tourmente NWA

In order to be authorized to enter into the Cap Tourmente NWA, you must go to the main entrance at address indicated below and pay the necessary fees. More information about the applicable fees can be found in Schedule II of the Wildlife Area Regulations

To participate in the controlled fall hunt for Greater Snow Goose that takes place within the Cap Tourmente NWA, you must register between February and April. A select number of hunters are chosen to take park in the controlled hunt through a random draw that takes place in May.
