The Government of Canada is soliciting your feedback on the proposed Code of Practice for the Environmentally Sound Management of Chemical Substances in the Chemicals, Plastics and Rubber Sectors. It is open for a 60-day public comment period ending on April 5, 2023.
The input gathered through this process will be taken into consideration when preparing the final code of practice.
Background
The purpose of the proposed code is to provide guidance on best practices to manufacturers, formulators and distributors in the chemicals, plastics and rubber sectors in order to prevent releases of chemical substances to the environment. Releases of chemical substances to the environment can originate from a variety of sources and activities within these sectors.
In addition to providing general guidance to all facilities in the targeted sectors, Environment and Climate Change Canada intends to use the proposed code as a complementary risk management instrument for some substances assessed to be toxic under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999.
