Emissions Reduction Advancement Program
A compliance option under the Clean Fuel Regulations
Overview
The Emissions Reduction Advancement Program (ERAP) is a new industry-funded, federally managed program that provides an alternative compliance option under the Clean Fuel Regulations for fuel suppliers. Contributions made by fuel suppliers under this program will go towards supporting projects that will reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Canada.
Through the ERAP, fuel suppliers subject to the Regulations can satisfy up to 10% of their annual reduction requirement under the Regulations. The total value of contributions received by the ERAP from fuel suppliers may not be known until November 30, 2024.
Learn more about the different compliance options under the Clean Fuel Regulations and see the list of registered emission reduction funding programs that are eligible to receive contributions from fuel suppliers.
Timelines
As of January 1, 2024, fuel suppliers can make contributions to the ERAP.
The timeline for the achievement of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions through projects funded by these contributions is prescribed in the Clean Fuel Regulations and is based on the date that the contribution is made by a fuel supplier.
Contributions made by fuel suppliers in 2024 or 2025 will go towards funding projects in Canada that will achieve emissions reductions by 2030, while contributions made after 2025 will fund projects that will achieve emissions reductions within five years.
More information on how to apply for funding for GHG emission-reduction projects will be provided in due course.
