Opened on July 12, 2022 and will close to new input on October 11, 2022.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is seeking input and comments on a discussion document which outlines specific review topics and questions under the Storage Tank Systems for Petroleum Products and Allied Petroleum Products Regulations (Regulations), with the goal of determining whether amendments to modify requirements set out in the Regulations are necessary to further improve and modernize the Regulations.
Background
As part of the departmental Regulatory stock review plan, in accordance with the Cabinet Directive on Regulation, ECCC is undertaking a review of the Storage Tank Systems for Petroleum Products and Allied Petroleum Product Regulations, which came into force in 2008, under the authority of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999.

Key questions for discussion
The discussion document summarizes information on the Regulations and identifies specific areas and questions that will help determining the best options to further improve and modernize the Regulations. We would like your input on the following topics as well as any technical information that you may have:
- Approach and requirements to design, install, withdraw and remove storage tank systems
- Commonly used methods for conducting leak detection, monitoring and maintenance programs
- Approach to fuel delivery and standard operating procedures
- Implementation of the emergency plan
- Timelines for reporting
