We consulted Canadians about National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) reporting requirements for twenty benzothiazole substances. Industry use benzothiazoles as vulcanization agents and accelerants in the production of tires and other rubber products.
Who was the focus of this consultation
We engaged with:
- a multi-stakeholder work group including:
- industry associations
- environmental non-government organizations
- Indigenous organizations
- members of the public
Key questions for discussion
We proposed to add reporting requirements for a group of 20 benzothiazoles.
We sought ideas and input around the following topics:
- should NPRI add a group of substances called benzothiazoles, including MBT, with a reporting threshold of 100 kilograms and 0.1% concentration?
