Proposed changes to the National Pollutant Release Inventory
This page provides information on proposed changes to the National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) reporting criteria. This includes open consultations, notifications of other proposed changes, and recently closed consultations. You can click on the title of each consultation to find more about it.
Changes are considered in accordance with the Process for proposing and considering changes to the NPRI. If you have any comments related to these proposals, please contact the NPRI.

Proposal to delete decabromodiphenyl oxide | May 3 to June 27, 2019 | Closed - decabromodiphenyl oxide has been removed from Part 1A of the substance list as of 2020. |
Proposal to change the list of speciated volatile organic compounds | May 3 to June 27, 2019 | Closed - three substances have been removed from Part 5 of the substance list as of 2020. Propylene glycol methyl ether acetate has been moved from “Other Groups and Mixtures” to the “Isomer Groups” section of Part 5 of the substance list as of 2020; all isomers must now be reported. |

Proposal to change reporting requirements for dioxins, furans and hexachlorobenzene | February 25 - April 12, 2019 | Closed - facilities producing iron ore pellets using an induration furnace are required to report for dioxins, furans and hexachlorobenzene as of 2020. |
Proposal to add naphthenic acids | January 15 to July 10, 2018 | Closed - naphthenic acid fraction compounds (and their salts) have been added to Part 1A of the substance list as of 2020. |
