Textile mills that use wet processing: pollution prevention planning notice
Note: this notice is no longer in force.
This notice (PDF) applied to all wet processing textile mills that discharged their effluents to a municipal wastewater treatment system and had an average daily effluent discharge, calculated on a yearly basis, greater than 30 m3/day at least once between 1999 and 2003.
Performance results
Use of nonylphenol and its ethoxylates was reduced by 99.99% (207 049 kg). Effluent toxicity target was met or partially met by 92% of active mills. The Government of Canada continues to monitor nonylphenol and its ethoxylates for increases in use quantities and levels in the environment to determine the need to develop further measures. For more information, see the performance report.
