Special initiatives
Special initiatives are communications to the industry from the Supervision and Enforcement Branch or the Commissioner. They outline the approach that the Agency will take when dealing with certain cases or market conduct obligations when the Supervision and Enforcement Branch or the Commissioner deems:
- changes are necessary to improve business practices of regulated entities
- clarification is required when the government intends to develop new regulations
- obtaining information from regulated entities is essential to understand their level of compliance with new regulatory requirements, codes of conduct or public commitments
The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) may also conduct surveys of consumer knowledge and industry practices related to legislation, regulations, codes of conduct or public commitments. FCAC will publish the objectives of survey or focus group research as well as any conclusions or recommendations.
