Summary
The Consumer Product Safety Program (CPSP) administers and enforces the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (CCPSA) and its regulations.
The purpose of this Compliance Verification (CV) project was to verify industry's compliance of automotive products, marine products, and fuels with the requirements of the Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations, 2001 (CCCR, 2001).
For this project, compliance of those automotive, marine, and fuel products was determined through an evaluation process where Health Canada inspectors visited establishments both online and in-person and conducted a review of the establishment records. Compliance with the requirements listed under the Regulations was verified by Health Canada inspectors at the time of inspection.
Prior to initiating inspections, the CPSP carried out a market survey to determine the presence of establishments selling, importing, or manufacturing chemical products in Canada. Targets were then selected from that survey.
Over the course of the 2023-2024 fiscal year, 57 different products were evaluated for compliance including their CCCR, 2001 documentation, where 39 out of the 57 samples were imported products. The evaluation identified 45 instances of non-compliance, which resulted in 20 recalls, 13 stop distributions, and 12 commitments to address non-compliance. There were 12 instances where no compliance issue was identified, therefore no corrective action was required.
