Summary
The Consumer Product Safety Program (CPSP) administers and enforces the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (CCPSA) and its regulations.
The purpose of this Compliance Verification (CV) project was to verify industry's compliance of ceramic foodware products with the requirements of the Glazed Ceramics and Glassware Regulations.
For this project, compliance of select ceramic foodware products was determined through an evaluation process where Health Canada inspectors visited establishments both in-person and online and sampled relevant products. Compliance with the requirements listed under the Regulations was verified through testing at the Product Safety Laboratory.
Prior to initiating inspections, the CPSP carried out a market survey to determine the presence of establishments selling, importing, or manufacturing ceramic foodware products in Canada. Targets were then selected from that survey.
Over the course of the 2023-2024 fiscal year, chemical testing of 41 different products was carried out, where all 41 samples were imported products. The chemical testing identified 2 instances of non-compliance, which resulted in 2 recalls. There were 39 instances where no compliance issues were identified, therefore no corrective action was required.
