Consumer Product Enforcement Summary Report

The Consumer Product Safety Program (CPSP) administers and enforces the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (CCPSA) and its regulations.
The purpose of this Compliance Verification (CV) project was to verify industry's compliance of mattresses with the requirements of the Mattresses Regulations.
For this project, compliance of bed-in-a-box or compressed rolled mattresses with the Mattresses Regulations was determined through an inspection process by which Health Canada selected relevant products from establishments, both online and in-person. Compliance with the requirements listed under the Regulations was then verified through testing at the Product Safety Laboratory.
Prior to initiating inspections, the CPSP carried out a market survey to determine the presence of mattress companies selling bed-in-a-box or compressed rolled mattresses in Canada. Targets were then selected from that list of companies.
Over the course of the 2023-2024 fiscal year, flammability testing of 14 different products was carried out, where 7 of the 14 samples were imported products. All products were compliant and no corrective actions were required.
