Labelling Requirements for Cosmetics in Pressurized Containers
Definition/ Criteria Aerosol A disposable metal container designed to release pressurized contents by use of a manually operated valve. Flammability

  • Below common name or brand name
  • Front panel, at bottom
  • Parallel to the base of the container and centred on the display panel
  • If more than one symbol, they must appear next to each other in the following order from left to right: DANGER, WARNING, CAUTION
  • Depends on the area of the display panel - see Relative Size of Labelling Based on Area of Display Panel
  • Must be at least 4% of the area of the display panel and more than 6 mm
Signal Word CAUTION CAUTION WARNING DANGER
  • Signal word must be immediately below the hazard symbol
  • If more than one signal word, one with the greatest hazard applies
  • Font must be in sanserif, CAPITAL LETTERS and
  • in bold

  • All text and symbols must be easily legible and in direct contrast to other label items and remain so for the useful life of the product
Primary Hazard Statement CONTAINER MAY EXPLODE IF HEATED. FLAMMABLE FLAMMABLE EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE
  • Primary hazard statement must be immediately below the signal word
Additional Hazard Statement Contents under pressure. Do not place in hot water or near radiators, stoves or other sources of heat. Do not puncture or incinerate container or store at temperatures over 50°C. Do not use in presence of open flame or spark.
  • Can appear on any panel (except the bottom of the container)

  • All text and symbols must be easily legible and in direct contrast to other label items and remain so for the useful life of the product
