List of foods for a special dietary purpose for exceptional importation and sale
Due to the low volume of reported shortages of foods for a special dietary purpose, Health Canada has not made the exceptional importation mechanism permanent by transitioning to the regulations. This mechanism ended on March 2, 2022, at which time the normal regulatory pathway for these products took effect. Designated products that have been imported under the interim order may continue to be sold until they expire or until there is no more stock.
Foods for Special Dietary Purpose on this list are eligible for the exceptional importation and sale provisions provided for in the Interim Order. The list, which will be updated as required, is incorporated by reference in the IO and is maintained by Health Canada.
