Guidance on the WHMIS supplier requirements: Executive summary
This guidance is for suppliers of hazardous products destined for Canadian workplaces. It provides information on the:
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) requirements of the Hazardous Products Act (HPA) and the Hazardous Products Regulations (HPR)
- Hazardous Materials Information Review Act (HMIRA) and its regulations and the mechanism to protect confidential business information
This guidance does not cover employer and worker requirements of WHMIS. Each federal, provincial and territorial agency responsible for occupational health and safety has their own employer WHMIS requirements for their jurisdiction. For example, the Labour Program at Employment and Social Development Canada is responsible for workplaces under federal jurisdiction.
