This section contains policy, procedures and guidance used by IRCC staff. It is posted on the department’s website as a courtesy to stakeholders.

June 26, 2019

The Entry/Exit Program instructions have been updated to include information on the collection of traveller data as well as more detailed information on the use of the Entry/Exit Information System for all lines of business.

Since February 2019, IRCC officers have been able to use the “Entry/Exit” tab in the Global Case Management System (GCMS) to query the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) system for entry and exit information on travellers for the purpose of validating presence in and outside Canada. The “Entry/Exit” GCMS tab can also be used to verify whether or not the traveller previously overstayed their allowable time of stay in Canada.

Outstanding regulations

With the passing of Bill C‑21, An Act to amend the Customs Act, data on all travellers (including Canadian citizens) will begin to accumulate as of June 2019 for travel by land and as of June 2020 for exits by air, when the respective regulations come into force.
