How to get a police certificate - Bahamas
If you need to give your fingerprints for a police certificate, this isn’t the same as giving your biometrics (fingerprints and photo) for an application.

You must provide a police certificate when you apply for:
- permanent residence
- citizenship
- some temporary residence programs

How to apply
If you live in the Bahamas
If you live in Nassau
Apply online on the Royal Bahamas Police Force website (check Special considerations for a complete list of stations that accept applications).
If you don’t live in Nassau
You may appoint a representative to apply on your behalf to the Superintendent, CID, Criminal Records Office (check Contact information for the complete address).
If someone is collecting your character certificates for you, they must have
- your ID
- their own ID
- one of the following documents:
- passport
- driver’s license
- voter’s card
You can then pick up your completed certificate at the station where you applied unless a fingerprint check is required. In those cases, the certificate will be available at the Criminal Records Office on Thompson Boulevard.
If you live outside of the Bahamas
Apply online or on paper (check Contact information for email contact, for the form and procedure).
Former residents of the Bahamas may appoint a representative to apply on their behalf to the Superintendent, CID, Criminal Records Office (check Contact information for the complete address).
