How to get a police certificate – Panama

If you need to give your fingerprints for a police certificate, this isn’t the same as giving your biometrics (fingerprints and photo) for an application.

You must provide a police certificate when you apply for:

  • permanent residence
  • citizenship
  • some temporary residence programs

How to apply

If you are a citizen of Panama

If you live in Panama

Apply in person or send a representative to apply for you at the Departamento de Investigación Judicial (see Contact information).

If you live outside of Panama

Apply in person at the General Consulate of Panama or send a representative to apply for you at the Departamento de Investigación Judicial in Panama (see Contact information).

If you are not a citizen of Panama

If you live in Panama

Apply in person or send a representative to apply for you at the Departamento de Investigación Judicial (see Contact information).

If you live outside Panama

Apply in person or send a representative to apply for you at the Departamento de Investigación Judicial (see Contact information).

Information and documents you need

  • Your identification document (Cédula) or passport (or a photocopy if a representative is applying for you)
  • If a representative applies for you, they must have notarized authorization.
  • Forms are to be completed at the Dirección de Investigación Judicial or at the General Consulate of Panama on the day of the request.
  • You must specify the certificate is for “Uso Internacional
  • Fiscal stamps, purchased from Banco Nacional, are required to issue the certificate. For more information on fiscal stamps, contact the Departamento de Autenticación y Legislación (see Contact information and address below).
