How to Get a Police Certificate - Russia

If you need to give your fingerprints for a police certificate, this isn’t the same as giving your biometrics (fingerprints and photo) for an application.

Name of document(s) to get: Reference certificate (Spravka) (“Issuance of statements of the presence (absence) of convictions and (or) facts of criminal prosecution or termination of criminal prosecution”)

How to get a Police Certificate:

If you are a citizen of Russia:

If you live in Russia:

You should apply in person to your regional Information Centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (available in Russian only). You may also give a representative power of attorney to apply on your behalf.

If you live outside of Russia:

You can apply to the Consular Section of your nearest Embassy of Russia.

If you are not a citizen of Russia:

If you live in Russia:

You should apply in person to your regional Information Centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (available in Russian only). You may also give a representative power of attorney to apply on your behalf.

If you live outside of Russia:

You can apply to the Consular Section of your nearest Embassy of Russia. You may also apply to the Main Information and Analytical Centre (available in Russian only).

  • Application form
  • Valid passport
  • Power of attorney (if you are applying on someone’s behalf)
  • Applicable fees

Special notes and considerations

The police certificate must indicate all names you have used while in Russia.

Police certificates issued by local police offices are not acceptable.

The Embassy accepts only original police certificates. Print-outs of online search results and electronic certificates are not acceptable.
