How to get a police certificate – Uruguay
If you need to give your fingerprints for a police certificate, this isn’t the same as giving your biometrics (fingerprints and photo) for an application.

Certificado de Antecedentes Judiciales
Police certificate and IRCC requirements
You must provide a police certificate when you apply for:
- permanent residence
- citizenship
- some temporary residence programs

How to apply
If you live in Uruguay
Apply to the National Directorate of Scientific Police (Dirección Nacional de Policía Científica).

If you live outside of Uruguay
You’ll need someone in Uruguay to apply for you. You must go to your nearest Uruguay embassy or consulate to
- pay the application fee
- have your fingerprints taken
- name someone to represent you in Uruguay
- send your application and fingerprints to your representative so they can apply at the National Directorate of Scientific Police (Dirección Nacional de Policía Científica) for you

- Cedula de Identidad document
- your passport
- applicable fees
Special considerations
Only certificates issued by the National Directorate of Scientific Police are accepted. Certificates issued by any other federal/provincial government offices are not accepted.
