How to Get a Police Certificate - Uruguay

If you need to give your fingerprints for a police certificate, this isn’t the same as giving your biometrics (fingerprints and photo) for an application.

How to get a Police Certificate:

If you are a citizen of Uruguay:

If you live in Uruguay:

You should apply to the National Technical Police Direction (Dirección Nacional de Policía Técnica). For more information, visit the Tramites website.

If you live outside of Uruguay:

You must have a representative in Uruguay apply on your behalf. You must go to your nearest Uruguay embassy or consulate and:

  • Pay the applicable fees
  • Have your fingerprints taken by your local consular office of the Uruguay embassy or consulate
  • Name someone to represent you in Uruguay
  • Send your application and fingerprints authorized by the embassy or consulate to your representative so that he/she can apply at the National Technical Police Direction (Dirección Nacional de Policía Técnica) on your behalf

Special notes and considerations

Only certificates issued by the National Technical Police Direction are accepted. Certificates issued by any other federal/provincial government offices are not accepted.
