Apply for Canadian citizenship
People registered under the Indian Act
If you’re registered under the Indian Act, you may already be a Canadian citizen. Even if you’re not, you have the right to be in Canada.
We’re working on a new section that will help adults (18 and above) and minors (under 18) registered under the Indian Act understand how they can become Canadian citizens.
Once ready, it will explain
- who is eligible for this application process and what requirements they must meet
- the required forms and documents
- how to pay the fees and submit an application
- what to do after you submit an application
While we work on the new section, you can review our processing guidance on citizenship for people registered under the Indian Act.
Other citizenship applications
Even if you don’t meet the requirements to use this process, other options may be available to you.
