- your unique client identifier (UCI)
Use the email address we provided in your invitation.
When you’ll get a test invitation
Most people get the invitation 1 to 3 months after they receive the acknowledgment of receipt of their application (AOR).
The wait time for an invitation also depends on your situation and our current processing times. For example, you may wait longer if your application is non-routine.
You must wait until you receive your invitation before you can take the test. You can’t book the test yourself or contact us to get an invitation. We’ll send the invitation as quickly as possible.
You can check your application status to confirm that your invitation is on its way. When you check, go to the “Citizenship test” section of the status tracker. The In progress status means that
- we have scheduled your test
- you’ll get your invitation soon
If you haven’t received an invitation by the start date in the status tracker
If your application status says you’ve been scheduled for an online test, but you haven’t received an invitation yet, you should get it soon. They usually arrive at least 2 to 3 business days before your test start date.
If it’s less than 2 to 3 business days before the start date, send an an email to IRCC.CitOnlineTest-TestenligneCit-IRCC@cic.gc.ca with
- a detailed explanation of the issue
- your application number
- your unique client identifier (UCI)
How you’ll get the invitation
If you gave an email address in your application, we’ll send you or your representative the invitation by email.
To avoid missing our emails
- check your junk or spam folder
- look for an invitation from an email address that ends in “@cic.gc.ca” or “@canada.ca”
If you or your representative did not give an email address in your application you can provide your email using our web form. If you don’t provide an email
- we’ll mail the invitation to you or
- we may call you (check your voicemail messages regularly)
When you can take the test
If you take the test online, you can take your test only between the start date and end date provided on your invitation. This will be a 30-day period.
After you receive your invitation, you
- have up to 3 chances to pass the test during the 30-day period
- If you fail, log in and try again to use your chances.
- can take the test at any time during the 30-day period (including weekends and holidays)
You can’t sign in to the test
- before or after the 30-day period on your invitation or
- after you submit the test
If you’re taking the test in person or on Microsoft Teams
If you take the test in person or on Microsoft Teams, your invitation will include the details, for example, the time and location. If you fail the test, you’ll get a new invitation for another time.
How to reschedule the test
If you need to reschedule the test, email the address in the rescheduling section of your test invitation. In your email, include
- a detailed explanation of why you need to reschedule your test
- your application number
- your unique client identifier (UCI)
