Child safety – extra precautions for passports issued to children under 16 years of age
A parent or legal guardian may add the child’s information to the Passport Program System Lookout List if they’re:
- concerned for the safety of a child under the age of 16 or
- fear that someone other than the child’s parents or legal guardians submitted an unauthorized passport application
This will alert us that additional follow-up is required when processing an application for that child. It will ensure that all legal documents are reviewed and that there are no restrictions on the child’s mobility, or other information that would prevent a Canadian passport being issued in the name of the child.
- the full names and birth dates of all parents, legal guardians and the child, and
- copies of all custody-related legal documents
The documentation must be received by the Passport Program within 90 days of your initial request to ensure the child’s name remains on the System Lookout List.
