Passport and travel document service fees have increased

As of March 31, 2026, most fees for passports and travel document services have increased. Learn how these changes may affect your application.

Your fees

These fees are for Canadians abroad paying for a temporary passport or emergency travel document.

Temporary passports and emergency travel documents don’t replace your regular ones. They’re valid only for urgent, proven travel situations or residency requirements determined by the consulate or embassy.

Before paying for any of these services, please contact the Government of Canada office abroad where you will be submitting your application, to confirm your eligibility. Pay these fees only if the office instructs you to.

Temporary passport

Pay this fee only if you have an urgent proven need for a passport in less than 20 business days and have applied and paid for your regular passport (5-year adult, 10-year adult or child passport) but haven’t received it yet.

10-year adult passport (age 16 and up) and temporary passport

This fee includes the cost of a temporary passport and a 10-year adult passport.

5-year adult passport (age 16 and up) and temporary passport

This fee includes the cost of a temporary passport and a 5-year adult passport.

Child passport (age 0 to 15) and temporary passport

This fee includes the cost of a temporary passport and a child passport.

Interim passport

Pay this fee only if you aren’t able to access or use your existing passport as confirmed by a consulate or embassy.

Adult emergency travel document (age 16 and up)

Fee for an emergency travel document for Canadians living outside Canada.

The document is valid for 1 trip:

  • a direct return trip to Canada
  • a return trip to your country of residence
  • a trip to a location where full passport services are available

Child emergency travel document (age 0 to 15)

Fee for an emergency travel document for Canadian children living outside Canada.

The document is valid for 1 trip:

  • a direct return trip to Canada
  • a return trip to your country of residence

Additional fees may apply

You many need to pay extra fees on top of the fees above if you need

  • to replace a lost or stolen passport
  • to pick up your passport when you’re back in Canada
  • other administrative services (special stamp or observation)

You must pay this fee if you report a passport as lost or stolen and are applying for a replacement. This fee does not include the cost of new passport.

Addition of special stamp to your passport

Fees for a special stamp inserted in a passport for special circumstances. The stamp translates information on your passport to another languages.

Addition of an observation

Fee for an observation (text printed and inserted in a passport) to

  • add information or text limitations
  • alert border authorities to particular facts relevant to the conditions of issuance
