The Honourable Stéphane Dion, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement:
"Canada strongly condemns yesterday's terrorist attack on a police training college in Quetta, Pakistan, which resulted in a tragic loss of life.
This is the third time in three weeks that I have had the honour of speaking about the North. And I say this from the heart: marking the 20th anniversary of the Arctic Council, representing Canada at the Arctic Circle Assembly in Reykjavik and now joining you for this conference have been privileges.
Canada is deeply troubled by South Africa's announcement that it has submitted a notice of withdrawal from the International Criminal Court to the United Nations Secretary-General.
Canada is concerned by the decision of Venezuela's National Electoral Council to suspend the presidential recall referendum. Canada strongly urges the Electoral Council to reverse its decision and allow Venezuelans to exercise their constitutional right to hold a recall referendum.
