Today, the Government of Canada and the Province of Ontario marked another major milestone in delivering affordable and reliable public transit in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Work has officially been completed on the excavation of the Yonge North Subway Extension’s tunnel launch shaft – where two tunnel boring machines will begin digging 6.3 kilometres of tunnels.

Today, on the margins of the First Ministers’ Meeting in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, the Premiers of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to advance Maritime Regional Electricity Co-operation and System Integration, supported by the Government of Canada. The MOU establishes a collaborative process to identify regulatory, legislative and operational opportunities for greater regional electricity planning and co-operation and to develop a shared roadmap for a more integrated electricity system in the Maritimes.

To build a stronger Maritime grid, today, the Honourable Tim Hodgson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, announced $5.9 million for PEI Energy Corporation to advance the Prince Edward Island–New Brunswick Interconnection Expansion Project. This investment supports engineering studies, marine surveys, environmental assessments, stakeholder and Indigenous engagement, regulatory work and preliminary transmission route and substation design — laying the groundwork for construction by 2028.
