Today, the Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence, and Darren Fisher, Member of Parliament for Dartmouth – Cole Harbour, announced funding for Veteran Emergency Transition Services Canada (VETS Canada) from the Veteran and Family Well-Being Fund.
Canadians from coast to coast provide outstanding volunteer service to Veterans, their communities and their country. Since 2002, more than 1,050 Canadians have been formally recognized with the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation for their service to Veterans. Every province and territory has had at least one of its residents awarded a Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation.
$750,000 from the Veteran and Family Well-Being Fund supports study to assess Shaping Purpose program for transitioning Veterans and their domestic partner.
Today, the Government of Canada marked the 75th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy with signature ceremonies in Normandy, France, and in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
D-Day, and the ensuing Battle of Normandy, was one of Canada’s most significant military engagements of the 20th century. Through the commemorative journey this spring, Canadians have joined Veterans to pay tribute to the more than 90,000 Canadian soldiers who volunteered to serve our country and saw action in the Normandy Campaign.
