Today, the Government of Canada marked the 75th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy with signature ceremonies in Normandy, France, and in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
D-Day, and the ensuing Battle of Normandy, was one of Canada’s most significant military engagements of the 20th century. Through the commemorative journey this spring, Canadians have joined Veterans to pay tribute to the more than 90,000 Canadian soldiers who volunteered to serve our country and saw action in the Normandy Campaign.
From May 31 to June 2, 2019, the Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence, attended ceremonies and events to commemorate the contributions of Canadian soldiers during the Second World War’s Italian Campaign.

Today, the Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence, launched the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy at VIA Rail’s Pacific Central Train Station in Vancouver, joined by Normandy Veterans, youth, honoured guests and Canadian Armed Forces members.
The Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence, met with three organizations receiving funding from the Veteran and Family Well-Being Fund in 2018 during a recent visit to Edmonton.
