In an effort to improve health outcomes for Canadians affected by diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer's, the National Research Council of Canada is announcing three research programs to help industry get new medicines on the market faster.
On August 12, 2014 the Government of Canada announced the donation of 800-1000 doses of an experimental Ebola vaccine developed by the Public Health Agency of Canada to the World Health Organization (WHO). The vaccine, VSV-EBOV, has never been tested in humans, but has shown promise in animal research. It is the result of years of hard work and innovation by Canadian scientists to better global public health and security.
Breast cancer affects more women in Canada than any other type of cancer. In fact, more than 20,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and one in nine women is expected to develop breast cancer during her lifetime.
