On Wednesday, May 28, 2008, Canadian Ambassador to Afghanistan, Arif Lalani, will provide an on-record overview of the challenges and opportunities facing Canada's mission in Afghanistan.
Department of National Defence and Canadian Forces Interim Ombudsman, Ms. Mary McFadyen, presented commendations to four members of Canada's Defence community at a special ceremony today at National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa. Also in attendance were a number of senior Canadian Forces leaders and Defence managers, including Rear-Admiral A.B. Donaldson, Director of Staff ¿ Strategic Joint Staff.
The Minister of Finance, Jim Flaherty, will meet with provincial and territorial ministers of finance and treasurers for a working dinner on May 29 and further discussions on May 30.

The Honourable Helena Guergis, Secretary of State (Foreign Affairs and International Trade) (Sport), and the Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour, will hold a media teleconference from Lima, Peru, on Thursday, May 29, 2008.
Further to information provided in June and July 2007, Health Canada is reminding consumers not to use foreign toothpastes that have been found to contain diethylene glycol (DEG). In addition, Health Canada is reminding Canadian retailers and consumers not to sell or purchase any unauthorized toothpaste products. Consumers are also reminded that fluoride-containing toothpastes that have been authorized for sale in Canada will contain either an eight-digit Drug Identification Number (DIN) or a Natural Product Number (NPN).
