The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) has awarded $75,000 to three applicants in support of their participation in the public hearing to be held by the joint panel established to review the EnCana Shallow Gas Infill Development project in Alberta.

Auditor General Sheila Fraser has announced the appointment of Scott Vaughan as the new Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development, effective 5 May 2008. Mr. Vaughan has worked in the field of environmental economics for more than 20 years, in the areas of environmental protection, conservation and sustainable development at the international level. Ms. Fraser will introduce Mr. Vaughan to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development today at 3:30 p.m. in room 269 West Block.
