Today Royal Galipeau, Member of Parliament for Ottawa - Orléans and Deputy Chair of Committees of the Whole House, on behalf of the Honourable Jim Prentice, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC), announced the winners of a special $15-million nanotechnology research funding competition. Five projects will be funded over three years. BDC assessed the commercial potential of the proposed projects and will help the researchers move their technologies toward commercialization.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Member of Parliament for Beauce, the Honourable Maxime Bernier, on behalf of the Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, and the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Minister responsible for the Chaudière-Appalaches Region and MNA for Frontenac, Laurent Lessard, on behalf of the Deputy Premier and Minister of Municipal Affairs and Regions, Nathalie Normandeau, are pleased to announce that the Municipality of Saint-Elzéar will receive $104,955 under the federal-provincial agreement on the transfer of a portion of federal gasoline excise tax revenues and the Government of Québec's contribution. This is the first payment to Saint-Elzéar which will receive a total of $437,309 by the end of 2009 for important infrastructure projects.
