Remembrance Day 2022

Message from the Ombudsman | 11 November 2022

Every year on Remembrance Day, we pause in a silent moment of remembrance for those who have served to assure peace and respect for human rights in the world. We honour everyone who gave their lives for our country, so we may live in peace today.

We remember the sacrifices and achievements of the one and a half million courageous Canadians who served, and continue to serve our country at home and abroad. We remember the more than 118,000 brave individuals who died while protecting the rights of others. Taking an active role to remember these people is one way we can say "thank you."

There are many ways to remember. Attending a Remembrance Day ceremony today is one way; however, there are many other ways to remember today and throughout the year.

Canadian soldiers, aircrew and sailors did their duty to Canada. It is now our duty to pay tribute to their selfless dedication.

To all those who served and those who supported them, including the families who steadfastly stood by their side, we remember and we thank you.
