Remembrance Day 2023

Message from the Ombudsman | 11 November 2023

Remembrance Day is a time to honour the brave soldiers, aircrew, and sailors who have served in the Canadian Armed Forces. We must never forget the sacrifices they made, many with their lives, for our freedom.

For more than 100 years, millions of Canadians have proudly served our country in uniform, defending peace and respect for human rights around the world.

This year marks 70 years since the Korean War Armistice was signed. From 1950 to 1953, more than 26,000 Canadians served on land, at sea and in the air in this war. Sadly, 516 of them died. Long seen as a forgotten war, the Korean War is an important chapter in our military history.

To the brave members of our armed forces—who serve on battlefields, peacekeeping missions, search and rescue operations, and disaster responses, as well as many other ways–thank you.

We remember you. We honour you. We will never forget you.
