Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all: members and families of the Canadian Armed Forces, and my constituents from the Department of National Defence. My name is Gary Walbourne, and I am your Ombudsman for the remaining two years of my mandate.

This past year, our office has been particularly active. We have witnessed increased volumes of inbound calls and investigations opened. Solving your cases and providing you accurate and timely information is our top priority. The issues and challenges that you face are what drive us to do better every day. We also remain driven to impart lasting change on the organization through the recommendations made in our systemic reports. Our goal is to advocate for the most member-centric and fair system possible for you and your families.

More challenges lie ahead in 2017. There is much work to be done – and progress remains slow on key-decision points from senior political and military leadership. It is my sincere hope that critical recommendations in my reports are not only accepted but implemented to ensure members of the Defence Team are treated better.

As we enjoy the Holiday season and reflect on the past year, I urge each of you to spend time with your loved ones. Enjoy a safe, deserved rest.

In closing, let me say how thankful I am to serve all of you. May each of you and your loved ones, both near and far, have a happy holiday season and all the best in the New Year. We always stand ready to help.
