Letter to Commanding Officer: visit to HMCS Queen Charlotte Royal
20 November 2024
Lieutenant Commander Michelle Hopping
Commanding Officer
His Majesty’s Canadian Ship Queen Charlotte (HMCS QC)
210 Water Street
Charlottetown, PE C1A 9M5
Dear Lieutenant Commander Hopping:
I would like to thank you and your team for the warm hospitality extended to our office during our visit to HMCS Queen Charlotte Royal on September 25, 2024. The team greatly appreciated the opportunity to introduce our office and hear directly from Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members. Listening to both the successes and concerns shared by your members allowed us to gain a deeper understanding of the unique challenges faced by members of Prince Edward Island’s Naval Reserve unit.
During our visit, the team was pleased to present our mandate, discuss our investigations and recommendations, and highlight the Military Benefits Browser - a helpful resource accessible to all members. The team also emphasized that your members are welcome to contact our office at any time, even for general enquiries.
Concerns raised included the limited availability of medical resources on the island, where only one appointed doctor is accessible for assessments and treatments, as well as questions about the Reserve Force Compensation and the grievance process.
Overall, my team found the visit to be a great success. It was a privilege to share how our office can support the Defence community in Prince Edward Island.
Thank you once again for accommodating my team and contributing to a productive and informative outreach session.
Sincerely,
Robyn Hynes
Interim Ombud
