Dear Lieutenant-Colonel Michaud and Lieutenant-Colonel Arsenault:
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to you and your team for the warm hospitality shown to our office during our visit to the Prince Edward Island Regiment on September 26, 2024. It was a privilege to introduce our office and engage directly with Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members. Hearing both the successes and concerns shared by your members provided valuable insights into the unique challenges faced by Prince Edward Island’s two Army Reserve units.
During our visit, the team had the opportunity to present our office’s mandate and discuss our investigative processes and recommendations. The team highlighted the Military Benefits Browser on our website, an important resource available to all members, and emphasized that we are accessible for general enquiries or more specific concerns.
Key issues raised included the limited availability of medical resources on the island, where only one appointed doctor is available for assessments and treatments – and questions regarding the relationship between civilian employers and CAF services, the Reserve Force Compensation, and the grievance process for benefits related issues.
Overall, the visit was a notable success. It was invaluable to connect with the Defence community in Prince Edward Island and explain how our office can support them.
Thank you once again for taking the time out of your busy schedules to facilitate this important outreach.
Sincerely,
Robyn Hynes
Interim Ombud
