How to treat hepatitis A

There is no treatment for hepatitis A. Most people with hepatitis A will feel sick for a few months before they begin to feel better.

Health care providers usually recommend:

  • rest
  • fluids
  • adequate nutrition

Some people will need to be hospitalized.

If you have hepatitis A, you should check with your health care provider before taking any:

  • supplements
  • prescription pills
  • over-the-counter medications

These can potentially damage your liver. Alcohol should also be avoided.

After you recover, you will likely be protected against getting hepatitis A for life.
