How can malaria be prevented?

There is no vaccine for malaria, but you can take action to prevent it.

Take anti-malarial drugs

Consult a health care provider or visit a travel health clinic 6 weeks before you travel. Discuss with your medical professional which anti-malarial is appropriate for you to take for prevention.

Anti-malarial drugs, or "chemoprophylaxis", can be prescribed before your trip. They must be taken before, during and after your travels to help prevent malaria.

Avoiding mosquito bites

Protect yourself from mosquito bites, particularly from sunset to sunrise.
