How is malaria diagnosed?

Malaria is diagnosed using blood tests. Early diagnosis and treatment of malaria reduces disease and prevents deaths.

If you have symptoms of malaria, you should see a medical professional immediately. Even if you have taken medication to prevent malaria infection during your trip, you may not have been completely protected.

This may be a medical emergency, and you will need to get blood tests done.

Symptoms can happen during your trip or up to a year after you return home.

How is malaria treated?

Malaria can be treated with anti-malarial medications.

Treatment depends on different factors, such as the type of malaria parasite and the severity of the disease.

If the disease is identified early and treated, almost all cases can be completely cured.
