Implementing the New Direction in Staffing (16-03)

2016-04-04

Note: The following message was sent to deputy heads on April 1, 2016.

It is with great excitement that we mark the April 1, 2016 implementation date of the renewed Appointment Policy and Appointment and Delegation Accountability Instrument.

I am confident that the New Direction in Staffing (NDS) will provide you with greater opportunities to customize your approaches to staffing. Our collective goal remains to attract talented people, with modern skills, in a timely fashion.

As part of our efforts to support you, I am pleased to release the Staffing Dashboard. It provides timely and relevant data on staffing activities and trends that will give you a broader understanding of staffing within your organizations.

To help you share information on the benefits of NDS and what the changes will mean for your organizations and for your employees, we have also developed a template message. It can be customized to reflect your organizational approach. This message is also being shared with your heads of human resources and directors general of communications. You may also wish to direct employees to the Public Service Commission’s message  to all public servants posted on our website.

Finally, I would like to personally thank you for your commitment to ensuring a representative, non-partisan and merit-based staffing system. I am encouraged by the levels of engagement and enthusiasm we have seen in our meetings about NDS with your senior management teams. I know that we will continue to see positive changes in staffing and I look forward to working with you to build tomorrow’s public service today.

Christine Donoghue
Acting President
Public Service Commission
