Time to start thinking about summer student hiring! (20-02)

Believe it or not, we’ve already started planning for summer student hiring!

To make sure the student inventory meets your needs, we’ve asked all students registered in the Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP) inventory to update their profile and confirm their interest and availability for a student work opportunity. More than 42 000 students are currently available and have confirmed their interest in working for the federal public service.

New this year, the Employment Opportunity for Students with Disabilities and the Indigenous Student Employment Opportunity are offered all year long. These initiatives were created to integrate these students into the public service to contribute to a more diverse and inclusive workforce.

Students who self-declare as an Indigenous person or as a person with a disability on their FSWEP application will automatically be included in the applicable inventory. Students will benefit from the support and tools offered as part of these initiatives, such as onboarding tools, training and networking events. As these inventories are available all year round, hiring managers can hire students for the summer, but also for fall and winter employment opportunities.

As of today, managers can access these students’ inventories. To hire a student from the Employment Opportunity for Students with Disabilities or the Indigenous Student Employment Opportunity, simply select the corresponding employment equity criteria. Supporting tools for managers are still available on our GCpedia page.

Discover a huge pool of talent! Start your hiring process today, and help build the public service of tomorrow!
