Acceptable calculators
Some Public Service Commission of Canada tests allow the use of a calculator.
Candidates can use their own basic calculators or one provided at the test session. This guide describes which calculators can and cannot be used. If there is any doubt about a calculator’s acceptability at a test session, candidates must use the one provided on site.
Calculators you can use
- Basic handheld calculators with:
- a simple number pad
- memory keys (M+, M-, MRC, Ans, GT)
- operation keys (+, -, X, ÷, √, %, =)
- no advanced storage or text features
- no special functions



Calculators you cannot use
- scientific or graphing calculators
- other specialized calculators with advanced functions
- smart devices (phones, personal organizers, tablets, smartwatches or other wearables)
