Acceptable calculators

Some Public Service Commission of Canada tests allow the use of a calculator.

Candidates can use their own basic calculators or one provided at the test session. This guide describes which calculators can and cannot be used. If there is any doubt about a calculator’s acceptability at a test session, candidates must use the one provided on site.

Calculators you can use

• Basic handheld calculators with:
  • a simple number pad
  • memory keys (M+, M-, MRC, Ans, GT)
  • operation keys (+, -, X, ÷, √, %, =)
  • no advanced storage or text features
  • no special functions

 Calculators you cannot use

• scientific or graphing calculators
• other specialized calculators with advanced functions
• smart devices (phones, personal organizers, tablets, smartwatches or other wearables)
