Bilingual Positions in the Federal Public Service: Responsibilities
The Government of Canada is committed to providing service to Canadians in both official languages. Organizations which help to ensure this happens include:
Public Service Commission (PSC):
- develops and oversees administration of tests to evaluate second language proficiency
- ensures that testing practices meet professional standards
- advertises positions
Office of the Chief Human Resources Officer (OCHRO) develops policies to ensure that federal institutions:
- serve Canadians in the official language of their choice
- create and maintain a work environment conductive to the effective use of both official languages
- provide equal employment and advancement opportunities to English-speaking and French-speaking Canadians within the Public Service
- develops language proficiency standards used for bilingual positions
Canada School of the Public Service (CSPS):
- develops second language courses
- provide second language training to persons employed in the Public Service
