The Canada Revenue Agency’s (CRA) chatbot is available 24/7 throughout the year to help answer frequently asked questions. The chatbot service is striving to get you the information you need from the CRA pages on Canada.ca.

Follow the steps below to ask questions to the CRA chatbot.

  1. Open the chatbot

Select the icon Chat with Charlie to open the chat widget. You will find the widget in the lower right corner on the CRA homepage and other CRA pages on Canada.ca.

    • Privacy disclaimer

Do not include any personal information. Your questions may be stored and analyzed to improve the chatbot interactivity. However, the CRA will not store or use your profile information, history, or other interactions. For more information about privacy, refer to the Privacy statement.

    • Issues opening the chatbot

If you are having technical difficulties accessing the CRA chatbot widget, check if your browser is up to date or try again using another browser. The current version of the following browsers are compatible with the CRA chatbot:

      • Chrome
      • Edge
      • Safari
  2. Ask your question

Type your question in the message box, and select the icon or Enter to send.

The best way for the CRA chatbot to help you resolve your issue is to:

    • Ask one question at a time
    • Write complete sentences
    • Describe a simple situation without personal or complex information
What to do if don't get an answer

If the chatbot can’t answer, try the following:

    • Ask your question differently
    • Use one keyword, for example T2, T400A, charities or tuition
    • Reset the conversation by typing “start over”
  3. Give your feedback

Sharing your experience with the CRA chatbot can help us improve the service.

You can send feedback by selecting the survey link found in the CRA Chatbot introduction message, or by typing "feedback" anytime in the message box.
