DOCTOR DENISE: I wasn't sure about accepting a visit from the CRA at first but I'm glad that I did. There are a lot of tax rules and regulations to be aware of. And good advice is always welcome in my books.

NARRATOR: The Liaison Officer Initiative is a voluntary program that is designed to help small businesses get their tax affairs right from the start.

DOCTOR DENISE: So the Canada Revenue Agency offered to send a liaison officer out for an hour or two at my convenience to help me understand my tax obligations.

He was friendly and helpful and showed me where I can find more information.

I learned a lot. The liaison officer showed me some common mistakes businesses like mine make, answered all my questions, and even phoned back two weeks later to see if there was anything else they could do.

I didn't know the CRA did that. This is a great service for small businesses like mine. I was really impressed.
