Common tax deductions
Important note
It is important to enter medical expenses under the profile of the family member for whom the expenses were incurred.
Claim the following credits under the profile of the person with a disability or impairment:
- disability tax credit
- amount for severe and prolonged impairment in mental or physical functions
- Canada caregiver amounts
- tax credit for caregivers
Depending on which profile needs to have the information entered, choose from the following:

- Click the sub-tab of the person you want to enter information for.
- Click Interview setup in the left-side menu.
- In the Common tax deductions section, tick the box next to Medical expenses, disability, caregiver.
- Click Next.

Medical expenses (including TP-752.0.13.1) page
It is important to enter the total amount of expenses paid in the appropriate categories. The software will automatically apply the federal and provincial limits for the specified expenses and enter the eligible amount in the tax returns.
- Medical expenses:
- It is not necessary to enter each receipt individually. Enter See list into the Description field and enter the total amount of eligible medical expenses:
- This amount must include any amounts paid for eligible travel expenses paid to obtain medical services within 200 kilometres of your area.
- It is not necessary to enter each receipt individually. Enter See list into the Description field and enter the total amount of eligible medical expenses:
- Specified medical expenses (not claimed elsewhere):
- Select the applicable type of medical expense from the drop-down menu.
- Quebec prescription drug insurance plan:
- Select Federal only (usual case).
- Enter the premium paid last year under the Quebec prescription drug insurance plan (this amount is on the Quebec notice of assessment received last year).
- TP-752.0.13.1 - Expenses for medical services not available within 200 kilometres of your area:
- Select the applicable option from the Select for whom the medical services outside of area was incurred drop-down menu.
- Enter the total amounts of eligible expenses (travel, lodging and moving) paid to obtain medical services that were not available within 200 kilometres of your area.
- Click the + sign next to Infirmity and Disability amounts claim for yourself* (line 31600).

Back arrow button is highlighted
The disability tax credit, the amount for a severe and prolonged impairment in mental or physical functions, the Canada caregiver amount and the tax credit for caregivers are claimed in the same screen.
- Complete the fields according to the situation.
- Enter the applicable information into the Name or description of infirmity field. If the person does not voluntarily provide this information, enter Unknown into the field.
- If the individual transfers the federal disability amount from their line 31600 to the Schedule 2 of their spouse or common-law partner, you must select an option from the Does CRA already have an approved T2201 form for this disability? drop-down menu.
- Click Next.
- You must report the qualifying period for the tax credit for caregivers for Revenu Québec. To do this, click the back arrow between the Previous and Next buttons. It allows you to return to the Medical, disability, caregiver menu.

- Click RRSP contributions, limits in the left-side menu.
- Enter the amount from the individual’s last notice of assessment, reassessment, or Auto-fill my return into the RRSP/PRPP deduction limit field.
- Answer the question Do you have unused contributions from the first 60 days of 2024?
- if Yes is selected, enter the corresponding amount from the individual's last notice of assessment, reassessment, or Auto-fill my return into the Unused contributions from the first 60 days of 2024.
- Enter the amount from the individual’s last notice of assessment, reassessment, or AutoFill My Return into the Unused contributions from prior years field or leave blank if the individual does not have any to report.
- In the Contributions to your own RRSP or PRPP/VRSP section:
- for receipts indicating contributions from March to December 2024, enter the information into the fields under March to December 2024.
- for receipts indicating contributions for the First 60 days of 2025, enter the information into the fields under First 60 days of 2025.
- If applicable, enter amounts into the fields in the PRPP/VRSP employer contributions section.
- If applicable, enter the amount provided by the individual into the RRSP or PRPP/VRSP deduction to use (leave blank to use all your contributions as a deduction) field.
- Click Next.

The disability tax credit, the amount for a severe and prolonged impairment in mental or physical functions, the Canada caregiver amount and the tax credit for caregivers are claimed in the same screen.
- Complete the fields according to the situation.
- Enter the applicable information into the Name or description of dependant's infirmity field. If the person does not voluntarily provide this information, simply enter Unknown into the field.
- Complete the Dependant’s unused disability amount section to determine how the unused disability amount will be claimed, otherwise leave Let MaxBack decide. Any unused portion of the disability tax credit will be transferred to line 31800 of the federal tax return of the individual supporting the dependant with the disability.
- Click Next.
- You must report the qualifying period for the tax credit for caregivers for Revenu Québec. To do this, click the back arrow between the Previous and Next buttons. It allows you to return to the Medical and disability menu.
