Share your ideas: Second draft technical guide related to the Strategic Assessment of Climate Change : Assessing climate change resilience
Current status: Open
Consultations are from March 15 to May 28, 2022.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is seeking comments on the draft technical guide related to the Strategic Assessment of Climate Change: Assessing climate change resilience.
The Government of Canada is putting in place better rules for major projects to protect the environment and communities, advance reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, and ensure good projects can go forward, creating good jobs and economic opportunities for Canadians.
As part of these rules, we published the Strategic Assessment of Climate Change (SACC) in 2020. The SACC enables consistent, predictable, efficient and transparent consideration of climate change throughout the impact assessment process.
The SACC states that technical guides will be published to provide additional details on specific elements to help guide proponents.
The first draft technical guide related to the SACC: Guidance on quantification of net GHG emissions, impact on carbon sinks, mitigation measures, net-zero plan and upstream GHG assessment was published in August 2021.
This second draft technical guide outlines key principles and provides general directions on two elements:
- The scope of climate change information required to assess a project’s resilience to both current and future impacts of a changing climate
- A framework for assessing risk and considering climate change resilience at the project level
