Literacy and essential skills

Find out about the essential skills needed for work, learning and life; how they are foundational to learning all other skills; and how they can evolve with your job to help you adapt to the workplace.

Skills Link Program

Provides funding for employers and organizations to offer eligible activities to youth facing barriers to employment. The program is part of the Youth Employment Strategy, a horizontal initiative involving eleven federal departments and agencies.

Explore – Second language summer program

Offers bursaries to Canadian students so that they can participate in intensive five-week language-learning courses in English or French at accredited institutions across Canada.

Career Focus Program

Funding for employers and organizations to design and deliver a range of activities that enable youth make more informed career decisions and develop their skills.

National Research Council Co-op Program

Offers work terms to post-secondary students so that they can acquire practical and professional work experience.

National Research Council Summer Employment Program

Provides post-secondary students with practical work experience in research and development, library sciences, communications and marketing.

Destination Clic

Provides three weeks of cultural discoveries and experiences while exploring francophone regions of Canada.

Export Development Canada (EDC) International Studies Scholarship Program

Awards annual scholarships to students pursuing careers or studies in international business, and programs which combine business with environmental or sustainability studies.

Doctoral Scholarships - Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarships (CGS) Program

Develop research skills and assist in the training of highly qualified personnel by supporting students who demonstrate a high standard of scholarly achievement in undergraduate and graduate studies in the social sciences and humanities.

Master's Scholarships - Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarships (CGS) Program

Provides funding to students who are pursuing full-time studies at the master's level in the social sciences and humanities field.
