Pratique de la stylistique comparée (SFE-199) [offered in French only]
This course is offered in French only and is intended for people translating or revising English-to-French texts.
- Category
- Professional training
- Description
-
As you know, a good translation is not only faithful to the source text but also idiomatic, meaning that it sounds completely natural to the target audience. This is where humans outshine machines.
If you’d like to stick less closely to the English when translating, if you want to produce a more natural target text when using neural machine translation (NMT), or if you’re looking to make the texts you revise more idiomatic, then this workshop is for you!
You’ll learn to recognize, name and define some useful principles of comparative stylistics—which you may already be using instinctively—and how to apply them in your day-to-day work to produce translations from English that sound more idiomatic in French.
You’ll leave this workshop with greater confidence not only in your ability to produce good French translations and revisions, but also in your continued relevance in this technologically evolving world.
Theory, group discussions and practical exercises are planned.
