Description

It can be easy to work on autopilot and translate literally, especially if we’re in a rush. We may just copy the French sentence structure into our English translations and assume it will work.

And indeed, sometimes it does. But other times, these overly literal translations are awkward, heavy or unidiomatic—or even grammatically incorrect. That’s where reformulating with creativity comes in.

In this workshop, you’ll learn some reformulation techniques and use them to improve awkward or incorrect English sentences. You’ll also get to play with words and hone your creativity.

Specialists in translation or revision (French to English)

Prerequisite

You must already be involved in translating or revising French-to-English texts.

Language

The workshop is given in English; however, you are welcome to use the official language of your choice.

At the end of the workshop, you will be able to:

• use more creativity when reformulating sentences to avoid overly literal translations
